Under Action C11, ‘Prevention of the introduction/expansion, control and eradication of invasive alien species’, of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, the island of Corvo was selected, due to its characteristics, to test rapid response techniques to the introduction of new invasive species. This initiative will result in an action plan to be applied to the other islands.

Following the conservation efforts made on this island, invasive alien species were recently removed, namely around 500kg of Kahili Ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum), as well as the continued installation of fencing in the Caldeirão area. The aim of this intervention is to exclude cattle from areas where native species proliferate, helping to preserve their natural habitat.
