On the island of Santa Maria, the Environment and Climate Action Service, in collaboration with the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, is propagating and subsequently planting native and endemic species in the project’s intervention areas, contributing to its conservation objectives.

The various species produced in the nursery include Ammi seubertianum, Euphorbia azorica, Crithmum maritimum, Lotus azoricus, Limonium vulgare, Azorina vidalii and Aichryson santamariae, totalling more than 2,000 plants.

In the Ponta do Castelo intervention area, one of LIFE IP AZORES NATURA’s areas of operation on the island of Santa Maria, direct sowing of native and endemic species was carried out. This work took place in areas where invasive species had been removed, aiming to protect the areas most susceptible to erosion and promote the propagation of the project’s target species.
