The LIFE VIDALIA project, which the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action coordinated, was implemented between 2018 and 2023 to improve and increase the populations of the Azorean Bellflower (Azorina vidalii) and the Azorean Lotus (Lotus azoricus), two protected and priority species for conservation, on the islands of São Jorge, Pico and Faial.

With the end of this project, it became necessary to find a solution to maintain the intervention areas and continue the work carried out over the last five years. With this in mind, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project took on the mission of maintaining the intervention areas of the LIFE VIDALIA project, ensuring the continuity of the work that had been implemented.

On the island of Pico, the LIFE VIDALIA project had five intervention areas, which are receiving periodic maintenance and planting in a collaboration between the Pico Environment and Climate Change Service and the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project.
