Within the scope of Action C3.2 β ππ―-π΄πͺπ΅πΆ Conservation, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project’s field workers started the new year with a planting action of the endemic species Azorean Sanicle (ππ’π―πͺπ€πΆππ’ π’π»π°π³πͺπ€π’) on the ridge of the Caldeira do Faial.
This priority species for the conservation of nature is protected by the Habitats Directive and the Bern Convention and is one of the species included among the βone hundred priority threatened species in terms of management in the European biogeographical region of Macaronesiaβ.
The 16 individuals come from a germination test at the Azores Seed Bank (BSA), with seeds from plants original from the bottom of the Caldeira. From now on, Faial Environment and Climate Change Service will monitor and ensure the maintenance of this plantation.
