Within the scope of Action C3.2 โ ๐๐ฏ-๐ด๐ช๐ต๐ถ Conservation, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project’s field workers started the new year with a planting action of the endemic species Azorean Sanicle (๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ช๐ค๐ถ๐ญ๐ข ๐ข๐ป๐ฐ๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข) on the ridge of the Caldeira do Faial.
This priority species for the conservation of nature is protected by the Habitats Directive and the Bern Convention and is one of the species included among the โone hundred priority threatened species in terms of management in the European biogeographical region of Macaronesiaโ.
The 16 individuals come from a germination test at the Azores Seed Bank (BSA), with seeds from plants original from the bottom of the Caldeira. From now on, Faial Environment and Climate Change Service will monitor and ensure the maintenance of this plantation.
