𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻-𝘂𝗽 𝗗𝗮𝘆 was created to raise awareness about the problem of marine litter, which is highly damaging to biodiversity, 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵 and ecosystems and causes significant losses to the fishing industry. For more than 30 years, this date has promoted community involvement in cleaning up coastal areas, thus contributing to implementing measures to minimise the impact of marine litter.

To mark this date, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change and the Regional Directorate for Maritime Policies, respectively, coordinating beneficiary and associated beneficiary of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, will promote several clean-ups in coastal, underwater and inaccessible areas, reaching several public entities and non-governmental organizations.
