As part of actions C4.1 and C8.1 – ‘Good practices for the conservation of terrestrial habitats’ and ‘Control and eradication of alien species in restored habitats’, respectively – the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project continued its terrestrial conservation work at Turfeira da Lomba, on Terceira island.
In February this year, a team from Terceira Island’s Environment and Climate Action Service cut several specimens of the alien species Cryptomeria (Cryptomeria japonica) in this project area using clear-cutting and ‘standing felling’ techniques.
In the coming months, the team will introduce several native tree species provided by the Forestry Services of Terceira Island to fix the slopes and restore this habitat.
