At the end of July, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, in collaboration with the São Jorge Environment and Climate Change Service, carried out conservation work on the Topo Islet. During this work, 84 cement covers were placed over the pots that act as artificial nests for the seabirds that nest there.

Artificial nests are an excellent solution for increasing the likelihood of seabirds nesting, but they are extremely sensitive and need protection and stability to guarantee their success.

Preliminary ground preparation was also carried out on the Topo Islet to start the habitat restoration work, and an initial test was carried out to disperse seeds of Daucus carota ssp. azoricus and Festuca petraea.
