At the end of 2024, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, in collaboration with the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Climate Action and with the support of the Environment and Climate Action Services, launched a campaign to raise awareness of the invasive species Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana), currently considered one of the greatest threats to biodiversity in mainland Portugal.

The campaign began with the distribution of posters to various organisations, including all the parish and town councils on the island of Pico. It gained even more momentum at the beginning of this year and reached the other islands.

This campaign aims to alert people to the risks associated with this invasive species and emphasise the importance and urgency of acting quickly before it becomes a significant threat, as it already is on the Portuguese mainland.
