The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change continues to take significant steps on nature conservation, producing sprouts of the native species ๐๐ด๐ฑ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ช๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ด.
This species belongs to the pteridophyte group (seedless vascular plants) and was germinated through spores collected from the specimens present at the Faial Botanic Garden.
It all started on the Azores Seed Bank with propagation trails of this species that took 11 months to germinate, but it was the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA who boosted this project through the conservation action C3 โ Implementation of pilot studies for the conservation of endemic flora.
The next phase will be planting this fern on the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA’s intervention areas, since most populations of ๐๐ด๐ฑ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ช๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ด are outside the Natura 2000 network areas, which raises some problems in the conservation strategy of the species.
