Through LIFE IP AZORES NATURA, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, the Pico Island Farmers’ Association, and other organisations have made several joint efforts to prevent the recurrent thefts of fence posts installed in the Caveiro Nature Reserve on Pico island.
However, on 28 October, yet another theft was recorded, adding to the growing list of incidents that directly affect the conservation efforts of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, namely in the protection of natural habitats in this location, which puts local biodiversity at risk and goes against the principles of environmental preservation and ecosystem services themselves.
This situation has been officially reported to the local authorities to act. In this sense, the entire community is called upon to collaborate in protecting these essential assets for the conservation and sustainability of the island of Pico.
All citizens are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. It is everyone’s responsibility to look after Pico’s natural heritage.
We count on your support!
