The aerial photo of the SPEA nursery, a partner in the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, located on the Agricultural Services of Santo António de Nordestinho farm, Nordeste municipality, was captured in July 2023 by a drone. The image shows the production infrastructure of the native plant nursery to carry out the conservation work of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, on São Miguel (Action C5 – Implementation of integrated conservation work in priority habitats 9560, 9360 and 4050 for the conservation of the priority bird – Pyrrhula murina).
In the captured image, we can see a 50m² greenhouse, two tunnel-shaped shade greenhouses, 240m² and 180m² respectively, a composter with 18m3 capacity, a homemade adaptation greenhouse, measuring 90m², as well as a shelter house and a warehouse.
All of these infrastructures have natural windbreaks (with native or exotic plants around each plot of the Farm) or windbreak nets, in order to reduce the intensity and speed of the wind. This way it is possible to protect all these infrastructures in extreme situations of storms or bad weather.
Seeing this image captured by the drone, acquired as part of LIFE IP AZORES NATURA, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, is like seeing the nursery through the eyes of a Common Buzzard, right from above!
