In May, a group of users of the Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Deficientes da Ilha do Faial (APADIF), namely from the Moviment’Art project, visited the Faial Botanic Garden and carried out an activity in partnership with the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project.
The activity consisted of a lecture about the Azorean Bat (Nyctalus azoreum), namely about feeding habits, characteristics and main threats to its conservation, ending with the assembly and installation of two bat shelters in the Faial Botanic Garden.
The Azorean Bat is one of the target species of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, coordinated by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, through Action C7, which aims to assess the conservation status, distribution and main threats of this species in the Azores.
This species is the only endemic mammal protected in the Azores by the Habitats Directive.
