As part of Action C4.1โ Good practices for the conservation of terrestrial ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฃ๐ช๐ต๐ข๐ต๐ด, the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project, in collaboration with the Pico Island Environment and Climate Action Service, took advantage of this time of year to continue planting native species in the projectโs intervention areas.
At the beginning of March, the project planted following in Caveiro:
_ 440 individuals of Azorean Blueberry (๐๐ข๐ค๐ค๐ช๐ฏ๐ช๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ค๐บ๐ญ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ถ๐ฎ);
_ 20 Short Leafed Juniper (๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ช๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ถ๐ด ๐ฃ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ท๐ช๐ง๐ฐ๐ญ๐ช๐ข);
_ 30 individuals of Scotch Heather (๐๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ข ๐ท๐ถ๐ญ๐จ๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ด);
_ 3 individuals of Azorean Wild Lettuce (๐๐ข๐ค๐ต๐ถ๐ค๐ข ๐ธ๐ข๐ต๐ด๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ช๐ข๐ฏ๐ข).
The Caveiro intervention area is one of the five intervention areas of the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project on the island of Pico. In this area, the project aims to restore existing ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฃ๐ช๐ต๐ข๐ต๐ด by excluding cattle from grazing, removing alien and invasive species and planting native species.
